An original short poem by Edward Black

THE DESTRUCTION OF MY ENGLAND
And did those feet...

Churchill and the War
Heath and the European Union
Both to achieve Peace in Our Time
Lofty thoughts, high ideals
Which we all fought for
With blood, toil, tears and sweat
And paid the prices for
All in our different ways
And created fine institutions
Grammar Schools, Comprehensive Schools, the NHS
Now all destined to crash
And the England of Hardy and Elgar is
Going, going, gone
Within months. Or weeks...

With fond memories of Max Gate.
